MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track & field team will begin its indoor season when it hosts the Holiday Classic on Saturday, Dec. 2, in the WVU Shell Building. The first event is set to start at 8:30 a.m. and the meet should wrap-up around 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers are coming off a rebuilding year in which the team secured ninth place finishes at both the indoor and outdoor BIG EAST Championships.
A slew of runners with great experience look to lead the team this indoor season. Fifth year senior Jessica Czaikowski, a four-time BIG EAST and NCAA qualifier, earned her first BIG EAST Championship last spring in the 100 meter hurdles.
Senior Abbie Stechschulte is looking to come off a redshirt spring season and regain the momentum she built last indoor season when she won the pentathlon BIG EAST Championship with 3,972 points, the second highest total in WVU history.
Another leader for the Mountaineers is senior Shani Boone. This fast runner placed at both the BIG EAST Championship and the ECAC Championship last year and is looking to improve upon her times this season.
The Mountaineers will be off for a month following the classic. The team will next travel to Kent, Ohio, for the Black Squirrel Classic on Jan. 12-13.
