Volleyball: Mountaineers to Close Out Home Play

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team will host BIG EAST play this weekend at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers will face off against Louisville at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, and take on Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, in the team’s last two home matches of the 2006 season.
West Virginia (2-25, 1-9) enters Saturday’s match after a 0-3 loss to Seton Hall on Saturday, Oct. 28. Middle blocker Tammy Wolf led the Mountaineers with 10 kills and 11.5 points while libero Aurora-Ebert Santos totaled eight digs. On the season, outside hitter Abby Tevis leads WVU with 3.33 kills per game as setter Kailee Goold adds 9.07 assists per game. Middle blocker Lisa Hough contributes a team-high .82 blocks per game.
Louisville (16-6, 9-1) is coming off a 3-0 win over Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 29. Outside hitter Tatyana Kolesnikova headed the Cardinal attack with 19 kills and 20 points while setter Samantha Dabbs totaled 41 assists in the win. On the season, Kolesnikova leads Louisville with 3.45 kills per game and libero Kristie Wetterer contributes 2.91 digs per game. The Cardinals have a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Mountaineers.
Cincinnati (18-5, 7-3) enters Sunday’s match after a 3-1 win over Dayton on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Outside hitter Jenny Custer led the Bearcat attack with 15 kills and 18.5 points while defensive specialist Jaime Frey added 35 digs. Outside hitter Jessica Elley averages a team-high 3.62 kills per game this season and middle blocker Jessie Nevitt contributes 1.67 blocks per game. Cincinnati leads the all-time series with West Virginia 6-2.
