MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s swimming team cracked the Swimming World Magazine’s Dual Meet Top 25, released Thursday.
The Mountaineers (2-0) are ranked 19th this week after posting impressive victories over Penn State and Louisville to start the season. It is believed to be the first time in the history of the swimming and diving program that West Virginia has been nationally ranked.
“For us to be in the top 20 is a very big statement for our men’s program,” said West Virginia coach Sergio Lopez.
West Virginia is one of two Big East teams in this week’s rankings. Notre Dame is two spots ahead of WVU at No. 17.
Men’s swimming only adds to an unprecedented run of success for WVU teams, joining both men’s and women’s soccer, football and wrestling in the national rankings.
The men’s and women’s swimming teams return to the pool this Saturday, taking on Marshall, East Carolina and Duquesne in Huntington. The meet will start at 12:30 pm.
