Gymnastics: Three Sign for 2008

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnastics coach Linda Burdette today announced that three gymnasts signed their national letters of intent for the 2008 season. Burdette received signatures from Amy Bieski, Naja Johnson and Jessica Young during the early signing period.
“We are very excited about the three girls that are joining our program,” said Burdette, who is in her 33rd year at WVU. “All three girls could have an immediate impact for us next season.”
Bieski, a native of Nanticoke, Pa., is a five-year Level 10 gymnast and two-time Junior Olympic national qualifier who participated in private club for Northeast Gymnastics.
Bieski, a state and regional qualifier the last two years, was the floor exercise champion at the 2004 regional and also placed fourth on the beam, fifth on the bars and sixth on vault to take third in the all-around competition.
She also placed third on the floor and eighth in the all-around at regionals back in 2003.
Bieski is senior class president and a National Honor Society member at Greater Nanticoke Area High School.
Johnson, a native of Augstell, Ga., is a two-time Junior Olympic national qualifier and placed seventh on the vault at 2006 nationals. She is a five-time regional qualifier that won the all-around at the 2006 regional.
She is a fifth year Level 10 gymnast from the Atlanta School of Gymnastics and is currently a senior at South Cobb High School.
Young, a resident of Monroe, N.C., is a three-year Level 10 gymnast who comes to WVU from Southeastern Gymnastics. She is a three-time regional and national qualifier who has placed in the top seven in the all-around at regionals the last three years. Young also won the 2006 state meet.
She is a senior at Providence High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society.
