Well, it is official; competition season is just around the corner. The annual “Turkey and Indian” Intra-squad Meet occurred this past Tuesday with an impressive showing of brand new routines, as well as polished ones the girls have been improving on since the end of last season.
Things really came together in the gym prior to the intra-squad meet in order to make this day a success. The intensity level has risen with each day’s practice, and everyone seems more confident as a result.
Many of the girls have been working extremely hard to put together brand new floor routines for the upcoming season. Spending time during practice, as well as coming in early in order to polish their new dance, they really seem to be excited and confident on this event. Everyone’s tumbling seems to improve with each practice, as well.
I am very impressed with how bars are going so far this year. We seem to have more girls putting together solid routines than in previous years, which is very impressive. Some of the girls are also working on adding new releases to their routines. With each practice, Rachel comes closer and closer to catching her Tkatchev. Kiersten is consistently nailing her pack salto in her routine, and the amount of hard work that she has put in on this event is remarkable.
On vault, everyone seems to be making the transition well as they move from the resi to the hard landing mat. Jaime has been working extremely hard on her Yurchenko fulls onto the hard mat, and she is working on upgrading to one and a halves. Shelly has been doing her Yurchenko fulls onto the resi mat quite consistently, as well, and Kiersten is about to move hers over onto the resi very soon.
Beam has been going very well for us in practice, too. The girls are faced with more and more pressure sets now, but their high levels of confidence are what seem to give them the edge that they need to push through. Cheryl’s triple flights are looking amazing, and Elizabeth’s have become more and more consistent with each practice.
I am excited to come in to practice every day to see all of the smiles around the gym and the product of everyone’s hard work and abilities to stay focused on our team goals. We are so far ahead of where we were at this point last year, and EVERYONE has contributed to this fact.
And for this, I am truly proud.
