Rifle: Mountaineers Pummel Pack

RALEIGH, N.C. – The West Virginia University rifle team handed N.C. State its first loss of the 2006-07 season as it defeated the Pack 4532-4479 on Saturday, Nov. 18.
The Mountaineers (3-3, 1-3) led the Pack (11-1) by only 13 points after the smallbore competition which set the stage for a thrilling air rifle match. WVU’s four counters all shot within eight points of each other to give West Virginia the win over N.C. State.
Junior Lafe Kunkel shot 575 points in the smallbore competition, the highest mark of the match. Senior Brian Launer summed 578 points in air rifle, also a match high. Freshman Doug McAllister competed in his first counting match as a Mountaineer. His 572 points in air rifle helped contribute to the West Virginia win.
WVU will next host Tennessee Tech at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Mountaineer Rifle Range.
