MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team continues its tournament season on Saturday, Nov. 18, when it travels to Annapolis, Md., to compete at the Navy Classic. Wrestling at Halsey Field House begins at 9 a.m.
“The purpose of this weekend is not to get caught up in the team scoring,” says head coach Craig Turnbull. “I want to see the guys get some matches and continue competing.
WVU had a successful opening to the 2006 season at the WVU Open on Nov. 4, as Mountaineers Brandon Rader (141), David Jauregui (149), Jared Villers (197) and Matt Holsopple (HWT) all took first in their respective weight classes, while Mark Anderson (133), Zac Fryling (157), Larry Hall (165) and Kurt Brenner (174) each finished second.
Last season West Virginia finished second at the Navy Classic behind the Midshipmen. Rader and former Mountaineer great Matt Lebe claimed titles for the squad. Returners Hall and Brenner took second, while Villers and Jauregui each claimed third.
