MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- With our unofficial intersquad meet coming up on Tuesday, things are starting to really come together and our confidence in the gym is improving each day.
We are so far ahead of where we were last year on beam. Last year at this time we were concerned with who could simply stay on the beam. Now, still months before season even starts, we are focusing on detail and we already have the confidence in knowing we can hit.
Last week, we started full floor routines with much success. Many girls are already doing complete floor routines with all of their tumbling passes on the floor.
We are very strong on bars right now and a lot of girls are really stepping up and putting things together. There will be many girls competing on bars in the intersquad, including many that did not compete last year.
The senior class has been very impressive over the past week with Cheryl stepping up on bars and putting tumbling passes on the floor. Tynisha has been upgrading her tumbling passes on floor and her vaults are looking as good as I have seen them. Janáe has continued to be a leader on this team and is capitalizing on this being her senior year.
The juniors are progressing, too. Kara has been doing exceptionally well on beam and bars. She is really stepping up and putting pressure on herself to hit every routine. Katie has been improving upon her already consistent bar and floor routines. She has really been focusing on detail; fighting for every handstand and sticking every dismount. Jaime’s bars and floor are looking great. She is working to add new skills to her bar routine and her tumbling is among the strongest on the team.
The sophomores and freshmen are also doing a lot to contribute to the team. Heather has been working extremely hard on floor and it is definitely showing.
Of the freshmen, Kiersten, Shelly, and Ashley are really doing well on bars and putting their routines together. Chelsi’s beam routine is looking great and she is working hard to keep her consistency on the event.
The intersquad will allow our hard work over the past few months to show, and I think many of the girls will be very pleased with how things turn out. This meet is going to be a big step in building our confidence and getting us in the mood of competition season.
