Rifle: WVU Finishes Weekend of GARC Action

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The West Virginia University rifle team finished a weekend of Great American Rifle Conference action with matches against Nebraska and Kentucky.
The Mountaineers (2-3, 1-3) fell 4548-4633 to Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 10. Senior Brian Launer recorded WVU’s top smallbore and air rifle scores of the day with 578 points and 581 points, respectively. The Huskers’ Kirsten Weiss recorded the highest smallbore score of the day with 580 points while Kim Chrostowski shot the highest air rifle score of the match as she summed 589 points.
Mountaineer freshman Doug McAllister recorded 573 points in the air rifle competition against Nebraska. That score sets a new season-high for the Hagerstown, Md., native.
West Virginia fell 4531-4648 to Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 11. Launer again recorded top scores for the Mountaineers in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions against Kentucky. Launer summed 579 points in smallbore and shot 577 points in air rifle. The senior’s smallbore score was the second-highest total of the match.
WVU junior Lafe Kunkel shot 575 points in the smallbore competition against Kentucky, his highest smallbore score this season. Launer’s 579 points in the smallbore competition against the Wildcats ties his current season high. The senior previously shot 579 points against Army on Oct. 28.
West Virginia will travel to Raleigh, N.C., to take on NC State at 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 18.
