MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7 West Virginia University women’s soccer team is ready for its final regular season road trip this weekend as the Mountaineers travel to face USF in Tampa, Fla., on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., before taking on Marquette on Sunday, Oct. 8, in Milwaukee, Wisc., at 2 p.m.
West Virginia currently sits atop the BIG EAST American Division while Marquette is in fourth and USF sits fifth.
The Mountaineers (9-1-2, 3-1-1 BIG EAST) enter the weekend ranked seventh in every major poll. Sophomore Deana Everrett leads a WVU offense that has outscored its opponents 41-7 this season.
Everrett, a native of Oakville, Ontario, has scored 12 of the team’s 41 goals and she averages one goal per game, ranking her second in the country.
Everrett’s 28 points (12 G, 4 A) also have her tied with Notre Dame freshman standout Michele Weissenhofer as the best point total in the BIG EAST. Everrett tied a school record and set a new career best by scoring three first half goals last Sunday at DePaul as the Mountaineers cruised to a 4-0 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Lana Bannerman, who has never missed a start in her career, has been solid in net for West Virginia. The Naperville, Ill., native picked up her sixth shutout of the season after holding DePaul scoreless on Sunday.
USF (5-5-1, 2-3 BIG EAST) is led by junior forward Lindsay Brauer, who is a former University of Tennessee transfer. Brauer has eight goals and four assists on the year for a total of 20 points in 11 games.
Senior Casey Garrett has 32 saves and allows an average of 1.53 goals per game. The Bulls have dropped five of their last six games and have been shutout in four of those games.
Marquette (4-4-4, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) is looking to return to the form it enjoyed last season when the Golden Eagles had a top 10 national ranking and an NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance. But Marquette has won just two of their last 10 matches entering the weekend. Junior forwards Allison Mallams and Christy Zwolski have provided most of the offense of the Golden Eagles.
Mallams has racked up 15 points (6 G, 3 A) while Christy Zwolski has 13 points (5 G, 3 A) through 12 games.
Goalkeeper Laura Boyer sports a 0.89 goals against average and has a pair of shutouts.
WVU leads 1-0 in the all-time series with both USF and Marquette.
