MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 8 West Virginia University women’s soccer team will face the No. 25 Louisville Cardinals in the BIG EAST tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, Oct. 29, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown at 1 p.m.
“We are excited to be hosting Louisville in a BIG EAST quarterfinal match at our stadium,” coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “With us hosting, we hope that we will have a big turnout from the crowd to make the game more difficult for Louisville on the field.”
Louisville defeated Pitt 1-0, in double overtime in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament on Thursday night at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky. Jamie Craft sent the Cardinals into the quarterfinals with a sudden-victory goal from 35-yards out in the 106th minute of play.
West Virginia and Louisville have never met on the soccer field in an official contest, but did square off in August in a preseason scrimmage in Morgantown.
The Cardinals enter the quarterfinals as the fourth seed out of the National Division while West Virginia locked up American Division top seed with a 4-0 win over Providence on Sunday. It was just the second time in school history that WVU has won a divisional crown.
This season marks the seventh straight trip to the BIG EAST tournament for West Virginia and the school’s eighth trip overall. The Mountaineers own a 6-7 all-time record in the tournament.
