MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team will compete in the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. in Franklin Park, Boston, Mass.
The Mountaineers are coming off a very successful run at the Golden Flash Invitational in Kent, Ohio, on Oct. 20. The squad was led to a first place finish by true freshman Marie Louise Asselin. The Sarnia, Ontario, Canada native finished first out of 29 runners with a time of 10:45.06.
The team looks to establish the tone for the future at Friday’s race.
“I am very pleased with the progression that we have made this year,” said second year coach Sean Cleary. “It is now time to see how we can handle some of the nation’s best. If we want to be at the top in the coming years, we need to prove that we can handle the pressure of this race.”
The Mountaineers will next travel to Lock Haven, Pa., for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 11. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. and will determine qualifiers for NCAA Nationals.
