Volleyball: WVU Drops Three to Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The West Virginia University volleyball team dropped three games to Marquette today.
The Golden Eagles (10-11, 6-3) won the match 3-0 (30-28, 30-14, 30-22).
West Virginia (2-23, 1-8) started game one with a 7-4 lead. The Golden Eagles fought back down the stretch and tied the game 27-27. Marquette went on to record three consecutive points to win the contest 30-28.
WVU was down 0-6 early in game two. Despite key kills from middle blockers Tammy Wolf and Lisa Hough, the Mountaineers were unable to recover. The Golden Eagles took game two by a convincing 30-14 mark.
The Mountaineers again found themselves down early game three, trailing Marquette 0-5. West Virginia battled hard and registered four consecutive points to bring the game to a 7-7 tie. The rest of the game was close until the Golden Eagles were able to pull away with a 22-17 lead. Marquette went on to record a 30-22 win.
Wolf led West Virginia with eight kills while setter Kailee Goold totaled 23 assists and nine digs. Hough added three blocks for the Mountaineers.
West Virginia will next travel to Pittsburgh for a 7 p.m. match against Duquesne on Oct. 25.
