MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer match scheduled for Monday, Oct. 23, against Pitt has been canceled.
The Mountaineers (14-1-2, 9-0-1) have already clinched the BIG EAST regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. The Panthers are locked into the No. 6 seed.
WVU will resume play when it hosts the BIG EAST quarterfinals at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. West Virginia will face the winner of the South Florida-Seton Hall match to be played on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Tampa, Fla. The Mountaineers tied the Bulls, 2-2, on the road on Sept 15, and defeated Seton Hall, 5-3, in Morgantown on Sept. 23.
With Saturday’s win over Providence, WVU is the first team to go undefeated through conference play since St. John’s in 1993. Ten BIG EAST teams have went undefeated through regular season conference play since 1985, however, no team has done so playing a 10-game schedule. The Red Storm previously held the record as they went undefeated in 1992 and 1993 playing an eight-game schedule.
