Volleyball: WVU Set For BIG EAST Road Trip

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set for a BIG EAST road trip this weekend to take on Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and to face Marquette at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
West Virginia (2-21, 1-6) is coming off a 0-3 loss to Youngstown State on Sunday, Oct. 15. Outside hitter Abby Tevis led WVU with nine kills while setter Kailee Goold added 17 assists. Defensive specialist Tamara De Angelis headed the Mountaineer defense with 11 digs. On the season, Tevis leads West Virginia’s attack with 209 kills, 3.32 kills per game and 722 total attempts. Goold guides the WVU squad with 8.93 assists per game and 607 total assists. Middle blocker Lisa Hough has registered 55 blocks this season while libero Aurora Ebert-Santos heads the defense with 328 digs and 4.43 digs per game.
Syracuse (8-18, 2-5) is coming off a 3-2 win over Siena on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The Orange were led by outside hitter Cheryl Cobbina’s 23 kills and defensive specialist Joscie Kaup’s 26 digs. Middle blocker Brittany Kern registered six of Syracuse’s 12 total team blocks. On the season, Cobbina leads the Orange with 386 kills and 4.15 kills per game. Middle blocker Sarah Morton has totaled 95 blocks and averages 1.02 blocks per game. Kaup heads Syracuse’s defense with 5.24 digs per game. The Mountaineers are 13-7 all-time against the Orange.
Marquette (9-10, 5-2) is coming off a 3-1 win over Syracuse on Sat. Oct 14. The Golden Eagles were led by outside hitter Jamie Mueller’s 20 kills and setter Monica Renfrow’s 59 assists. Defensive specialist/libero Hailey Viola headed the defense with 19 digs. Outside hitter Kimberley Todd leads Marquette this season with 338 kills and 4.76 kills per game. Renfrow registers a team-high 10.32 assists per game while Mueller adds 5.07 digs per game. Marquette will first face Pitt on Friday, Oct. 20, before taking on the Mountaineers. WVU leads the all-time series against the Golden Eagles 2-1.
