MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team moved up to the No. 6 spot in the NSCAA/adidas coaches’ poll on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
The ranking ties the highest ever in school history. The Mountaineers were last ranked sixth by the poll in late September of this season.
The Mountaineers also moved up from seventh to sixth in the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz polls this week. Notre Dame and North Carolina are consensus number one and number two in all the polls with UCLA, Santa Clara, Florida State and Portland all variously ranked throughout the top seven.
Sophomore forward Deana Everrett was named the BIG EAST offensive player of the week for the second time this season on Monday. Everrett earned the accolade after her two-goal, one-assist effort in a 3-0 win over Georgetown on Sunday. She currently leads the BIG EAST in goals per game (1.00) and total points with 38, which is the third best single season total in school history.
West Virginia (13-1-2, 7-1-1 BIG EAST) returns to action at home on Friday, Oct. 20, to face Connecticut at 7 p.m.
