MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming team earned first place in every event today at the WVU Relay held in the Natatorium.
The meet consisted of 22 relays. Both WVU teams earned perfect scores and finished the competition with 77 points each. Marshall came in second on the women’s side with 55 points, while Fairmont State University earned third with 35 points and West Virginia Wesleyan College finished fourth with seven points. On the men’s side, WVWC placed second with 38 points and Fairmont State finished third with 37 points. None of the times from the WVU Relay go towards postseason qualification.
The Mountaineers’ morning was highlighted by strong showings in all of the freestyle relays. The men’s side is hoping to repeat the success of its 13th place finish at last year’s NCAA Championships in the 200 free relay.
The team will next host Penn State on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. in the Natatorium. This meet will kick-off the competitive season for WVU.
