MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia is looking to put a pair of overtime losses behind it when it takes on Syracuse Saturday night in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.
The Mountaineers have slipped to 7-4, 0-1, following a pair of losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at home last Sunday and on the road at Seton Hall last Tuesday afternoon.
In both instances, West Virginia had leads but was unable to put the opposition away.
Saturday night’s match up in the Carrier Dome features the Big East’s top two scorers in Syracuse’s 6-foot-4-inch center Vaida Sipaviciute (20.1 ppg.) and West Virginia’s Meg Bulger (19.7 ppg.).
Sipaviciute scored 41 in a Syracuse win over Colgate while Bulger matched a WVU record with 38 points earlier this year in a victory over Cleveland State.
Expected to join Bulger in the starting lineup for West Virginia are guards Ashley Powell and Britney Davis-White, forward Chakhia Cole and center Olayinka Sanni.
Sanni is averaging 15.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while 6-foot-5-inch center Yelena Leuchanka is averaging 10.3 points and 8.1 rebounds coming off the bench.
Syracuse is 7-6 overall, and is 0-2 in Big East play.
The two teams have met 15 times with West Virginia owning a slight 8-7 advantage.
