Women's Tennis: WVU Defeated by ETSU

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team fell to East Tennessee State, 5-2, on Sunday, Jan. 29, in Williamsburg, Va.
"East Tennessee State is a very good team," head coach Dan Silverstein said. "We're going to keep working hard and we look forward to conference play for next weekend."
Junior Colleen Speaker won the Mountaineers lone singles match at the No. 4 spot, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, over Sylwia Ziolkowska.
The Mountaineers (1-2) had two victorious teams in doubles. Senior Raynie Theis-Percival paired up for a win over Ilina-Ziolkowska, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, junior Ashley Constantine- sophomore Monica Lyskawa put together a win over Vita Moskaliova-Volobueva, 9-8 (5).
At No. 1 singles, Lyskawa won the first set, 6-3, against Masha Ilina before falling 3-6, 0-6. No. 2 Stacey Percival fell to Tara Byrne, 2-6, 4-6.
At the No. 3 singles spot, sophomore Natalia Prinz was defeated by Elena Volobueva, 2-6, 2-6. Junior Kelly Walsh was bettered by Olya Batsula, 3-6, 0-6, at No. 5. Constantine fell to Sandie Knight, 4-6, 5-7, at No. 6
Prinz-Speaker lost a close match at the No. 2 doubles spot to Batsula-Byrne, 8-9 (3).
West Virginia returns to action next weekend on Friday, Feb. 3, as they travel to Ohio State to face off at 2 p.m. The Mountaineers will then take on Missouri on Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. in Columbus, Ohio before returning home to play BIG EAST foe Cincinnati on Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.
