Women's Tennis: WVU Falls to William and Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team was defeated by No. 20 William and Mary on Saturday, Jan. 28, in Williamsburg, Va.
"William and Mary was just too tough for us today," head coach Dan Silverstein said. "They're a top team and they showed why."
The Mountaineers (1-1) lost 0-7 to the Tribe. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Monica Lyskawa fell to Megan Moulton-Levy, who is currently ranked No. 11 in the country, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Stacey Percival lost to Megan Muth in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. No. 3 Natalia Prinz was defeated by #50 Katarina Zoricic, 6-0, 6-2.
No. 4 Colleen Speaker lost a highly contested match against Emmy Fritz-Krockow. Speaker won the first set 6-4, before falling in the second 3-6 and then 0-1 (9-11).
"Colleen fought hard today," Silverstein said. "She showed a great deal of heart out there."
No. 5 Kelly Walsh was bettered by Lingda Yang, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 6, Catherine Koontz fell to Klaudyna Kasztelaniec, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, the duo of Raynie Theis and Percival was defeated by Moulton-Levy/Zoricic, 8-2. Prinz-Speaker lost to Lauren Cash-Muth, 8-6, while the pair of Ashley Constantine-Lyskawa fell to Alex de Guzman and Barbara Zidek, 8-4.
"Hopefully we can rebound tomorrow and play well against East Tennessee State," Silverstein said.
West Virginia returns to action tomorrow, Jan. 29, as they face East Tennessee State at 10 a.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
