MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University freshman midfielder Amanda Cicchini has helped her native Canada to a spot in the U-20 CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association of Football) championship match Friday evening in Veracruz, Mexico.
The Canadians, group A winners, will face the United States for the tournament championship today at 4:00 p.m.
Cicchini, a native of Oakville, Ontario, has started every match for the Canadians as they downed Panama (6-0), Mexico (3-2) and Jamaica (2-1) en route to the championship match.
The Canadians are now assured of a spot in their third-straight FIFA World Championships to be held in Russia.
Fellow Mountaineer Robin Rushton is also a member of the U-20 Canadian team although she has not seen action in the qualifying tournament.
