MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University indoor track team returns to action Saturday, Jan. 21, as it travels to State College, Pa., to compete in the Penn State Women’s Open. The first event gets underway at 10 a.m.
Rutgers, Mount St. Mary’s and host Penn State are also registered for the meet.
“The girls have been practicing well,” says head coach Jeff Huntoon. “I fully expect a handful of BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying performances this weekend.”
Last week, the Mountaineers finished third behind Bucknell and Maryland-Eastern Shore at the Black Squirrel Classic in Kent, Ohio.
WVU also recorded some of the top individual finishes at the meet. Junior Abbie Stechschulte won the 60-meter hurdles with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 8.88. Senior Nancy Regalbuto jumped a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying height of 1.73 meters to win the high jump.
Senior Susan Davis ran a BIG EAST qualifying time of 2:16.01 to finish second in the 800-meters. Junior Halimah Bashir finished second in the 400-meter dash with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 57.52.
