Swimming: Men and Women Sweep St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams completed a sweep of both the men and women St. Bonaventure teams on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Reilly Center Pool in St. Bonaventure, N.Y.
The men won by a score of 147-90 and swept all 11 events, while the women topped the Bonnies 141-102.
“I’m excited with the way we swam today,” head coach Sergio Lopez said. “We swam well and hopefully we can take this into our meet against Syracuse tomorrow.”
Freshman Andrew Langenfeld won three individual events being the 50 free (21.55), 100 free (48.18) and the 100 back (53.29). Seniors Kyle Williams and Rick Mann grabbed second and third places in the 50 free with times of 21.67 and 22.11, respectively, while freshman Payton Brooks and sophomore Antonio Cisneros finished second (53.99) and third (54.04) in the 100 free to give West Virginia the top three places in those events.
Sophomore Nick Delic finished first in the 100 fly (51.49) with senior Chris Hagedorn coming in second (52.42) and Williams in third (53.33). Delic also won the 100 breast with a time of 58.47. Freshman Scottie Norton pulled out two victories on the day winning the 1000 free with a time of 9:49.17 and the 500 free (4:46.22). Sophomore Pablo Marmolejo won the 200 free (1:43.76), while freshman Michael Walker claimed the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.37.
The men won both relay events, being the 200 medley and 200 free. In the 200 medley, Delic, sophomore Felipe Cunha, Hagedorn and Langenfeld combined for the winning time of 1:35.55. The 200 free team comprised of Mann, Williams, Cisneros and Hagedorn finished first with a time of 1:24.79.
For the women, the Mountaineers took first in seven events with sophomore Maritza Paredes leading the way with two victories. Paredes won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.71, while also taking first in the 100 free (53.68). Junior Kristi Goodrick was victorious in the 1000 free (10:53.60), while freshman Rachel Fedyk won the 50 free (24.91).
Sophomore Tina Gabrillo won the 400 IM (4:32.75) and freshman Natalie Lautzenheiser placed first in the 100 fly (58.95). Freshman Taylor Stallings won the 100 free with a time of 59.45.
The women were victorious in the 200 free relay. Sophomores Erin Tudor, Elyse Fisher, Stallings and Fedyk combined for the winning time of 1:38.70.
In diving action, sophomore Erica Pfeiffer continues to lead the Mountaineer diving effort as she placed second in the 1 meter with 219.08 total points.
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow, Jan. 14, at noon as they swim against BIG EAST foe Syracuse in Syracuse, N.Y.
