Wrestling: WVU Readies for Virginia Duals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team heads to Virginia Beach, Va., to compete in the prestigious Virginia Duals tournament. The two-day event begins on Friday, Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. and continues Saturday at 2 p.m.
WVU (0-2) will be competing against 16 other teams in this year’s tournament including Bloomsburg, Indiana, North Carolina, Penn, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Ohio State. West Virginia has earned the No. 3 seed and will face Rider in its first match of the tourney.
The Mountaineers are coming off of a 28-14 road loss to Hofstra on Jan. 6 in their last dual meet. Senior 133-pounder Seth Lisa and senior 157-pounder Matt Lebe both claimed wins on the evening for West Virginia, while sophomore Scott Stuart won by forfeit at the 125-pound weight class.
Four WVU wrestlers are ranked nationally in this week’s polls including Lebe who claims the highest spot on the team, ranking No. 2 by InterMatWrestle.com. InterMat also ranks Lisa 16th and freshman 141-pounder Brandon Rader 17th. Freshman 174-pounder Kurt Brenner is currently ranked 12th by W.I.N. Magazine.
Rider (2-2) enters the meet against WVU coming off of a 25-11 victory over Drexel on the road on Jan. 10. The Broncos other win this season came against Maryland (25-14), while its two losses have come to Bloomsburg (13-26) and Lehigh (15-26).
