MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team travels to South Bend, Ind., to face BIG EAST foe Notre Dame for its fifth conference match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (6-4-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a pair of wins against DePaul (2-0) and Robert Morris (3-0). Freshman forward Zak Boggs tallied a goal in each match to bring his goal total for the year to three.
The Mountaineer defense has been solid on the year as well, tallying six shutouts thus far. Goalkeeper Nick Noble has allowed only six goals in 900 minutes of play in 2005 as he has posted a 0.60 goals against average and 39 saves.
The Irish (6-3-0, 2-2-0) picked up a 1-0 win over Bradley in their last match on Wednesday, Sept. 28. In its previous game Notre Dame fell 2-1 at home against Cincinnati.
Notre Dame poses an interesting challenge for WVU as the team has many different scoring threats. The Irish offense has scored 11 goals through nine matches with eight different players notching goals. Junior Nate Norman leads the team in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series with a 3-6-0 advantage. In last year’s contest West Virginia came away with a 1-0 upset in Morgantown.
