Volleyball: WVU Loses to Villanova

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team was defeated by Villanova by a score of 3-1 (30-22, 19-30, 26-30, 23-30) Sunday, Sept. 25 at the WVU Coliseum.
In game one, West Virginia, 10-5 (0-2) came out with a force the Wildcats were unable to match. The Mountaineers captured the lead at 3-1 and never looked back using a six serve run by senior Julie Hockenson and a total of five team blocks to win 30-22.
The Wildcats, 12-3 (2-0) challenged the Mountaineers in game two with powerful hitting and going on to win 30-19. Kacy Sellers led Villanova with five kills.
Game three showed intensity from both teams with neither team ever leading by more than three points before Villanova was able to go on a run to pull out a victory by a score of 30-26. Stephanie Zolna led West Virginia with seven kills in the third game.
The fourth game proved to be the final as Villanova was able to pull out the match to win 3-1.
Zolna led all Mountaineers with 20 kills while sophomore Kailee Goold had yet another double-double with 45 assists and 13 digs. The Mountaineers amassed a total of 11 team blocks.
West Virginia looks to get back on a winning track as they travel to Georgetown to face the Hoyas on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
