Owen Schmitt and Marc Magro were first-time starters for the Mountaineers. West Virginia now has a total of 37 players with at least one game of starting experience. Tops on that list and Mike Lorello (30), Jahmile Addae (29) and Dan Mozes (28). Lorello made his 29th consecutive start for the Mountaineers.
Marc Magro’s forced fumble in the first quarter was the first force of his career. The fumble recovery was by made Jeff Noechel, the first recovery of his career.
Adam Bednarik’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Darius Reynaud in the first quarter marked the second touchdown pass of the season for Bednarik and the second touchdown reception for Reynaud this season.
The Bednarik to Reynaud touchdown pass marked the third consecutive game that the Mountaineers scored first. It was also the first time the Mountaineers scored on their first drive this season.
Antonio Lewis’ 76-yard punt return for a touchdown was the first touchdown of his career. The last time the Mountaineers scored a touchdown on a punt return was last year against East Carolina when Adam Jones had a 76-yard return as well.
Pat White threw the first touchdown pass of his career on a 10-yard strike to Brandon Myles in the second quarter. The touchdown reception for Myles was his first of the season and third of his career.
Mike Lorello’s interception in the second quarter was his first of the season and fourth of his career. He becomes the fifth different Mountaineer to pick off a pass this season.
Josh Bailey’s 32-yard reception from Bednarik was the longest pass reception of Bailey’s career. The previous best was a 24-yard reception against Syracuse in 2004. It was the first reception by a tight end this season for the Mountaineers.
Brandon Myles set career highs for receptions and yards in a game. His six catches for 81 yards breaks his previous best of five against Syracuse earlier this year. Also, Myles had a career-best 76 yards receiving against the Orange.
For the fourth consecutive game, West Virginia held its opponent under 100 yards rushing (ECU had 84).
West Virginia’s 4-0 start marks the 24th time in school history that the Mountaineers have won the first four games of a season. When that happens, WVU has been to a bowl eight straight times. The last time WVU won the first four games of a season and did not go to a bowl was 1970 when the Mountaineers finished 8-3.
