AKRON, Ohio - The West Virginia University volleyball team defeated Oakland 3-0 (30-25, 30-25, 30-28) in its first match of the weekend at the Akron Early Bird Invitational on Friday, Sept. 2 in Akron, Ohio.
West Virginia (2-2) used team effort to get a win over the Golden Grizzles. Seniors Stephanie Zolna and Kelly Mullins led the Mountaineers with 17 and 16 kills respectively. Sophomore Kailee Goold had a tremendous game, contributing 41 assists to the win.
"Kelly was hitting the ball well with some great power," assistant coach Camille Gutierrez said. "Stephanie also had a great game as she was serving with some good power."
