PROVIDENCE, R.I. – West Virginia’s Jay Henry and Pat McAfee were honored by the Big East Conference for their play in last weekend’s 31-19 victory at Maryland.
Henry was named the conference’s co-defensive player of the week while McAfee was awarded the league’s special teams player of the week.
Henry, a Tulsa, Okla., native, registered six tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and a key fourth quarter fumble recovery in helping the Mountaineers to their first victory at Maryland since 1997. The junior helped hold the Terrapins to 50 yards rushing - marking the third consecutive game that WVU has held an opponent under 100 yards rushing.
McAfee, a Plum, Pa., resident, kicked a career-long 40-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to help seal the Mountaineer victory. Of McAfee's six kickoffs in the game, five were for touchbacks, including four in the decisive fourth quarter.
The conference citations were the first for both Henry and McAfee.
