MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team won their sixth straight match and defeated Memphis 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-27) to capture the WVU Classic Championship, Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005.
This marks the second tournament championship for the Mountaineers with their last one coming at the Akron Early Bird Invitational. Kelly Mullins racked up her second tournament MVP award of the season, with Aurora Ebert-Santos and Kailee Goold also being named to the all-tournament team.

"We played very well tonight," assistant coach Camille Gutierrez said. "Our hitting percentage this match was the most consistent of the whole tournament. We forced Memphis into making mistakes with our serve and blocking."
Mullins had 21 kills, while Gina Cusanelli contributed 5 kills and 9 digs.
"This win was a team effort," Gutierrez said. "It was a great win to head into BIG EAST play."
