Volleyball: WVU Defeats Buffalo in Five

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team defeated Buffalo 3-2 (30-26, 25-30, 30-22, 22-30, 15-11) in its first match of the WVU Classic on Friday, September 16, 2005.
The highly contested match went five games before the Mountaineers (7-3) could close it out. West Virginia was led by senior Stephanie Zolna with 20 kills, followed by Kelly Mullins with 14. Junior Aurora Ebert-Santos helped in the defensive effort with 22 digs.
"Defensively, Aurora kept us in the match," assistant coach Camille Gutierrez said. "She provided great passes and what we needed all night."
Buffalo was led by Nikki Morzenti with 16 kills. Lizaiha Brown had 21 digs and Amy Brown contributed 45 assists.
"We did what we had to do to win," Gutierrez said. "Buffalo had a good game plan and executed things well."
The Mountaineers return to action Saturday, September 17 at Noon. They will then face Memphis in the tournament nightcap at 8 p.m.
