Volleyball: WVU Travels to Akron Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team is set for three matches on Friday Sept. 1, and Saturday Sept. 2, at the Akron Early Bird Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
The Mountaineers (1-2) begin play on Friday evening with a 5:00 p.m. match with Oakland (0-2). WVU begins a doubleheader on Saturday, starting with a noon match against Elon (0-1), and then taking on tournament host Akron (3-) at 7:00 p.m.
West Virginia is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the AmeriHost Inn and Suites Invitational on Aug. 26-27. The Mountaineers defeated Tennessee-Martin (3-0), while falling to Idaho (1-3) and Ohio (0-3), both NCAA Tournament teams last season.
Stephanie Zolna leads the Mountaineers with 38 kills on the season. She surpassed Sarah Evers last weekend to move up to eigth in career kills, now amassing 1,089 for her career. Aurora Ebert-Santos leads the defense with 56 digs for the season.
