MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University head rowing coach Nancy LaRocque today announced that current graduate assistant Tina Griffith will be promoted as the team's head assistant coach for the 2005-06 season.
"I'm just excited to coach with her this year," says LaRocque. "I have already worked with her as an athlete and a graduate assistant so it should be an easy transition."
Griffith, a West Liberty, W.Va., native, served as an assistant on the team for the past two seasons under LaRocque and replaces Sera Coppolino in that position.
Before coaching, Griffith competed in the Varsity 4 that became Dad Vail champions in 2001. She was also part of the boat that traveled to England to row in the Henley Royal Regatta, in which the women finished second. Griffith earned a degree in secondary education in 2003 from WVU as well as a master's degree in athletic coaching education in 2005.
