LURAY, Va. - West Virginia University baseball shortstop Doug Nelms has been named to the Valley all-league team for his performance this summer with the Luray (Va.) Wranglers.
The rising Mountaineer senior is batting .294 with four home runs, 25 RBI and 33 runs scored for the Wranglers. The Bristol, Va., native is also leading the league with nine sacrifice bunts.
Luray currently sits in first place overall in the league with a 30-14 record as it heads into the second round of the playoffs.
In 2005 Nelms captured first team all-BIG EAST honors after batting .349 with three home runs, 11 doubles and 28 runs batted in. He finished the regular season second in the conference in batting with a .387 clip in BIG EAST contests. Earlier this season, Nelms hit safely in 15 straight games while hitting .534 during that span. Nelms turned 32 double plays on the season and joined freshman Tyler Kuhn as the conferences best middle infield tandem.
The Valley League features 10 teams that reside in cities along Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. A wooden bat league for the past 13 seasons, the Valley League is in its 44th year as an NCAA sanctioned summer league.
