Volleyball: WVU Sweeps UT-Martin

ATHENS, Ohio - The West Virginia University volleyball team swept Tennessee-Martin 3-0 (30-24, 30-26, 30-17 ) in its second match of the AmeriHost Inn and Suites Invitational Saturday, August 27, at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio.
The Mountaineers (1-1) took the lead early in game one and never looked back. Stephanie Zolna helped the Mountaineers close out the game serving for the final five points.
West Virginia never trailed in game two and defeated the Skyhawks (0-3) by a score of 30-26. The Mountaineers led by as many as five and recorded 16 kills in the second game.
WVU got off to a hot start in game three, winning the first four points. The Mountaineers took control of the final game and led as many as 11 points before closing out the match at 30-17. Zolna had 7 kills in game three alone.
West Virginia was led by Zolna who registered a game-high 18 kills. Julie Hockenson had 7 kills and 6 blocks, while Aurora Ebert-Santos continued her dominant play defensively with 15 digs.
The Mountaineers will return to action this evening when they face tournament host Ohio in the final game of the day at 7 p.m.
