MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - In its preseason rankings, Soccer America recently recognized the West Virginia University women’s soccer team with a No.15 preseason ranking.
The Mountaineers, who also earned a No. 11 preseason ranking from SoccerBuzz and a No.15 slot from the NSCAA, were one of three BIG EAST schools making the list. Defending national champion Notre Dame leads the pack with a No. 2 ranking while Connecticut was ranked No. 9.
Showing WVU’s strength of schedule, three non-conference opponents also made the preseason list. Portland (No. 4), Virginia (No. 5) and Tennessee (No. 20) round out those opponents.
West Virginia opens the 2005 campaign on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., when reigning Atlantic 10 champion Dayton visits Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
