MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team was recently tabbed No. 15 in the preseason poll released by the NSCAA.
The No. 15 rank ties the highest preseason slot the Mountaineers have ever earned in the NSCAA/adidas season-opening poll. WVU was also tabbed 15th at the beginning of the 2004 campaign.
The Mountaineers, who also earned a No. 11 preseason ranking from SoccerBuzz, were one of three BIG EAST schools making the list. Notre Dame, winner of the 2004 Women’s College Cup, is the preseason No.1 while Connecticut was rated ninth.
Four other WVU opponents: Virginia (No. 4), Portland (No. 7), Tennessee (No. 11) and Washington (No. 20) were also recognized by the coaches association.
West Virginia will open its 10th season of Mountaineer soccer on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m., when it plays host to Dayton at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
