Men's Basketball: Gansey Scores 10 in Win

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mike Gansey scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds to help USA to an easy 117-61 victory over China Tuesday in the second preliminary round game at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey.
Gansey made four of eight field-goal attempts and hit both free throws for the winning Americans. USA Basketball avenged its last loss to China in the 2001 Games and has now won 51 of its last 52 contests in World University Games competition.
The U.S. will face the Czech Republic tomorrow for the right to move on to the medal round.
Meanwhile, Germany remained in contention with a 69-53 victory over the Czech Republic. West Virginia’s Joe Herber scored seven points, grabbed three rebounds and handed out three assists in the victory. Former WVU center Ales Chan scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Czeh Republic in a losing effort.
Germany faces China for the right to advance to the medal round on Wednesday.
