MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior Kevin Pittsnogle announced today that he will make himself available for the 2005 NBA Draft.
Under NCAA rules, Pittsnogle will retain the option to withdraw from the draft and return for his senior season at WVU since he will not sign with an agent. The NBA Draft early entry withdrawal deadline is June 21, one full week before the NBA Draft (June 28).
"This is an option that college basketball players are exploring more and more each year," says John Beilein. "If he decides there is a lucrative opportunity out there for him, then I fully support his decision. I like the idea that he is testing the waters to see where he stands and we will advise him the best that we can through the process."
Pittsnogle, a 6-11 center from Martinsburg, W.Va., started 17 games this past season. He averaged 11.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 19.3 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 27 points against Pitt this past season and shot 46.5 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from three-point range and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line.
He became WVU's 42nd 1,000 point scorer against Creighton and now shows 1,071 points for his career, tied for 36th best in school history. Pittsnogle is WVU's all-time leader in three-point percentage at .418 (162 of 388) and ranks fifth in career three-point field goals made at WVU (162).
This past season, Pittsnogle was named to the BIG EAST all-tournament team and the NCAA all-Albuquerque region squad.
The 2005 NBA Draft will be held on June 28 at Madison Square Garden.
