Baseball: Notre Dame Completes Sweep

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Notre Dame used a four-run second to knock out West Virginia starter Wes Osbourn and defeat the Mountaineers 7-3 to complete a three-game sweep at Frank Eck Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind.
Irish No. 4 hitter Craig Cooper and No. 5 batter Matt Edwards went a combined 7 for 7 with four RBI and a run scored to help Notre Dame improve to 33-23-1 and lock up one of four spots in the Big East tournament with a 14-9-1 record.
Notre Dame starter Jeff Samardzija went seven strong innings, scattering nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking none. He improves to 7-1 on the season.
Osbourn gave up five hits and five earned runs in an inning and two thirds with two walks to finish the season with a 7-4 record.
Lee Fritz, Stan Posluszny and Kyle Matuszek each had a pair of hits for the Mountaineers, which finish their season with a 25-30 record including a 10-15 mark in Big East play.
Posluszny smacked his 12th home run of the season in a three-run fourth for West Virginia.
Notre Dame claimed both games of Friday's doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 5-1.
