Rowing: UC Downs WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team put together one of its best performances of the year against Cincinnati on Saturday , April 30, on the Monongahela River, however, it was not enough to hold off the Bearcats as they took all three races.
“The race went well,” said head coach Nancy LaRocque. “This was a great test for all of us as we are heading to our last race in two weeks.”
In varsity eight competition the Mountaineers finished second in a very close race. UC “A” boat crossed the line first in a time of 7:19 minutes, with WVU coming in right behind at 7:26. The Bearcat’s “B” boat took third in 7:31.
“The varsity eight had a great showing,” said LaRocque. “They pushed UC about 1,700 meters before they gave way.”
In varsity four competition the Mountaineers took third with a time of 8:38, while Cincinnati’s “B” boat took first (7:42), and the “A” boat took second (8:25).
Rounding out the day WVU finished third in the novice eight race (8:30) with the UC “A” boat taking first (7:37) and the “B” boat rowing to second (8:06).
“The varsity four and novice eight had a solid race, but couldn’t hold off the other boats” said LaRocque.
The Mountaineer's return to action on May 13, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Dad Vail Regatta.
