Volleyball: Hammersmith Names Assistant

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball coach Veronica Hammersmith announced today the addition of assistant coach Sean Daly as the team’s recruiting coordinator and outside hitters coach.
Daly, a native of Wakefield, R.I., comes to West Virginia from Rhode Island where he served as the team’s assistant coach for one season. Prior to his stint at URI, Daly was the head women’s coach in 2004 at Johnson and Wales University in Denver. He served as the assistant men’s coach at the university’s Providence campus in 2003 and Denver campus in 2004.
Daly was Springfield College’s assistant women’s coach in 2002 and assistant men’s coach in 2001-02. He served his first stint at the Providence campus of Johnson and Wales during the 2000-01 season. During this time the team received national recognition including a top 15 national ranking in 2000 and 2001. Daly’s responsibilities included setter development, opponent scouting, sports information and recruiting.
When Daly was a graduate assistant for the Springfield College women’s volleyball team, the team won 23 games and finished second in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference. Daly was also a graduate assistant for the men’s volleyball team that placed second in the EIVA conference and won the Molten Division III National Championship in the spring of 2002. As the head coach of the Springfield College women’s JV team, he led the squad to a record of 16-2. Overall, Daly owns a head coaching record of 42-7.
Daly played college volleyball at Keene State College where he was the starting setter for the men’s club team. Daly developed the team’s offensive system and added coaching responsibilities during practices. He received all-conference awards during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. As a junior, Daly was the starting setter for the University of Wolverhampton England club team while he studied abroad.
Daly earned his Master’s degree in Sport Management from Springfield College. He attended high school at South Kingstown High where he lettered in volleyball, track and soccer.
