Rowing: WVU Solid at BIG EAST Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. - The West Virginia University rowing team's varsity four boat took fifth place in the grand finals to highlight the Mountaineers' day at the BIG EAST Championships on Lake Quinisigamond, in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday, April 24.
The Mountaineer four boat started out the day by taking third place in its heat with a 10:28.00. In the finals, WVU raced the course in a time of 10:53.92, putting it behind Notre Dame (9:48.45), Boston College (10:00.13), Syracuse (10:09.11) and Rutgers (10.10.18). The Mountaineers beat out Connecticut, who finished sixth in 11:24.60.
The WVU varsity eight boat took sixth place in the grand finals in a time of 8:55.48. Notre Dame and Syracuse tied for the win, both finishing the course in 8:23.11. Boston College (8:35.90) took third, with Connecticut (8:36.39) and Rutgers (8:52.61) taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
Also competing for the Mountaineers on the day was the novice eight boat that finished in a time of 9:23.45. The time did not qualify the boat for the finals.
WVU only competed in three of the five events on the day and took eighth place overall in the conference standings. Notre Dame won its second straight BIG EAST title in the competition.
