West Virginia’s offense could only plate two runs behind six hits including a 3-for-3 night from outfielder Stan Posluszny. The junior collected two RBI on a single through the right side in the first inning and a solo home run in the sixth.
Akron broke open a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with three runs following an error by the WVU shortstop. The Zips used a pair of RBI doubles to left center and a Vince Chiera RBI single to take a 4-1 lead.
