MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University freshman Ryan Hill earned BIG EAST co-pitcher of the week honors for his effort in guiding the Mountaineers to a 6-4 victory and series clinching win over Rutgers on Sunday.
Hill, a Seymour, Ind., native, did not allow a run in 7 1/3 innings of relief while striking out four Scarlet Knight batters. WVU’s lefthander allowed six hits and two walks against 29 batters in picking up his first career conference win.
Hill shares pitcher of the week honors with Notre Dame’s Tom Thornton while St. John’s Jim Martin was tabbed BIG EAST player of the week.
The weekly award is the first by a Mountaineer this season and first since lefthander Zac Cline received pitcher of the week honors on May 3, of last year.
The Mountaineers resume non-conference play on Tuesday, April 12, against Duquesne in Pittsburgh, before facing St. John’s in an important three-game series at Hawley Field, April 16-17.
