MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team travels to Queens, N.Y., on Thursday, March 31, to battle BIG EAST rival St. John’s at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.
The Mountaineers (9-5, 1-1) are coming off a .500 weekend that saw them defeat Connecticut, 4-3, on March 25 and fall to Syracuse, 6-1, on March 26. West Virginia enters Thursday’s match having won four of its last five contests.
St. John’s (5-3, 2-1) began the year with three straight losses, but has since won five straight, including BIG EAST victories over Georgetown (6-1) and Seton Hall (4-3).
West Virginia’s match with the Red Storm is the first of three matches it will play in the next four days. WVU comes home to host Seton Hall Saturday before closing out the weekend with a match against Rutgers on Sunday.
“St. John’s is playing great tennis right now so we know we are in for a major test,” coach Dan Silverstein says. “Playing three matches in four days is going to be grueling, but I’m confident that this team is up to the task.”
The first serve of Thursday’s match is scheduled to go in the air at 11 a.m.
