Women's Tennis: Host Southern Miss Prevails

GULFPORT, Miss. – After an 11-day layoff, the West Virginia University women’s tennis team lost 4-3 to host Southern Miss on Friday afternoon at the Bayou Bluff Tennis and Recreational Club.
The Mountaineers posted wins at No. 3, 4 and 6 singles matches from Monica Lyskawa (6-2, 6-2), Kathryn Gerber (6-3, 6-1) and Stacey Percival (7-6 [9-7], 6-1).
The Lady Eagles claimed singles wins from Nicola Slater (6-1, 6-3) and Sherry Price (6-1, 6-1) before collecting victories at No. 1 and 3 doubles.
The West Virginia duo of Percival and Raynie Theis posted an 8-7 [7-4] win over Nikhila Narra and Sherry Price.
Southern Miss’ Ali Blackett‘s win at the No. 5 position clinched the match for the Lady Eagles.
The Mountaineers resume action tomorrow morning against Troy at 10 a.m.
