MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men's soccer player Aaron Pitchkolan was signed to a MLS contract by FC Dallas on Friday, Feb. 25, before the team headed to Barcelona, Spain, on Feb. 26 for preseason training.
Pitchkolan becomes the first Mountaineer in school history to be signed to a MLS contract.
"It's great for Aaron as well as our program to see him succeed in the MLS," said WVU head coach Mike Seabolt. "I think this can be attributed to all of the hard work he put in over the past four years."
Pitchkolan was taken 23rd overall by Dallas in the MLS supplemental draft on Friday, Feb. 4. In January Pitchkolan was selected to take part in the MLS player combine that put 65 of the nation's top college soccer players on display at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Pitchkolan started 52 of 54 matches in his three-year career for the Mountaineers. The Aurora, Colo., native started all 20 matches for the Mountaineers in 2004, recording three goals and two assists.
The Aurora, Colo., native spent his first season at the University of Tampa with Seabolt and assistant coach Scott Bowers before transferring to WVU.
Pitchkolan still plans to graduate with a degree in International Studies from WVU in May.
