MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University men's soccer player Aaron Pitchkolan was drafted with the 23rd pick overall by Major League Soccer's FC Dallas on Friday, Feb. 4, in the supplemental draft.
"The Mountaineer soccer family is extremely excited for the opportunity Aaron has been given to be the first WVU player to be drafted by the MLS," says head coach Mike Seabolt. "He put in a lot of hard work over the past three years."
Pitchkolan was chosen with the 11th pick of the second round in the four-round draft. Last month Pitchkolan was selected to take part in the MLS player combine that put 65 of the nation's top college soccer players on display at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
Pitchkolan started 52 of 54 matches in his three-year career for the Mountaineers. The Aurora, Colo., native started all 20 matches for the Mountaineers in 2004, recording three goals and two assists.
This is the first year that the nine-year-old MLS has conducted a supplemental draft. In all, seven BIG EAST players were chosen on Friday.
