Wrestling: WVU Travels To Pitt

The Panthers (6-5, 2-0) return eight starters, including five NCAA qualifiers, for the 2004-05 season. Three ranked grapplers lead Pitt in No. 7 Ron Tarquinio (141), No. 18 Matt Kocher (157) and No. 15 Drew Headlee (133). Pitt is coached by Rande Stottlemyer who is in his 26th season at the helm of Panther wrestling.
West Virginia (2-5, 2-0) won six of the final seven bouts in downing the Panthers, 21-13, last year in Morgantown. Returning Mountaineers who won matches include Mike Torriero (149), Matt Lebe (157), Zac Fryling (165) and Greg Jones (184). Pitt holds a 27-21-1 all-time series lead on the Mountaineers while WVU has won the last three meetings.
Following the Pitt contest is a non-conference dual meet with Ohio on Friday, Feb. 11, at the WVU Coliseum. First match is slated to begin at 8 p.m. “Alumni Night” is the theme as several former Mountaineer athletes and graduates will be in attendance.
